In a hard-fought physical played on Saturday 13th July at the Prisons Court, Cantonment, Kawukudi Warriors succeeded in upsetting Reformers who failed to capitalize on the fact that the game was played on their home court.
Once again this game started very slowly in terms of scoring. With 3.44 to go in the first quarter, the game was tied at 3-3. The first quarter ended 6-6.
Scoring picked up in the second with at least two lead changes. At the end of the half Reformers had a 2 point lead with the score at 28 – 26.
In the third, Warriors guard and former Sprite ball star, Ollenu was reinserted with a heavily bandaged left hand following an injury he sustained in the second quarter. Warriors played catch up most of the third as the scorers on both sides heated up.
Reformers forward missed an alley hoop dunk but despite the miss, he literally jumped over a defender! This became a talking point for fans even after the game had ended.
The third quarter ended with Warriors up by 5 points – 47 – 42.
Reformers began the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and took over the game but managed to lead with only 4 points with about 2 minutes to go. Warriors fought back and tied the game at 58 with 1.47 to go.
Down the stretch, Warriors missed a number of free throws but Reformers failed to control the boards. The game ended 63 – 58 in favour of Warriors.
