Ghana national rugby union team are expected to leave the country on Tuesday for their debut appearance at Middle East-Africa (MEA) Rugby League Championship in Nigeria.
The team have been camping since June for the four-team tournament which starts on October 2.
Ghana will slug it out with hosts Nigeria, Cameroon, and Morocco for the ultimate title.
“I think after months of preparation, everyone is pretty much excited to get out there to play our first game on Wednesday. They are very committed, disciplined, passionate set of blokes,” Coach Andrews Neil Gilvary told media after their last training session in Ghana on Sunday.
“They’ve been a pleasure to work with and going forward for the tournament so we are all excited and can’t wait to get out there”.
“Well, I think it’s a group. We just got to control the controllable. I know our strengths, I know we are a big physical set of blokes and that we have got good speed on the edge so we are going to play to that”.
The All Stars will open their account against Nigeria at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos with the winner progressing to the final.
Neil Gilvary said: “Hopefully, they will be able to put everything they have done in practice into play. We also know Nigeria have got good players”.
“I know their coach. I know a few of the boys who will be out there so it’s going to be tough but from what I have seen today, there is no doubt that we will put in a good performance.”
