Oil giant, Tullow and Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF) have acknowledged the phenomenal support from STEM Bridge Teachers Volunteer Corps on World Teacher’s Day.

YBF singled out for commendation the work of STEM Bridge Teachers Volunteer Corps at the basic level and Senior High Schools in all the six Coastal Districts of the Western Region under the ‘Educate to Innovate With Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Project’.

Mr Seth Oteng, the Executive Director of YBF, in a statement commemorating International Teachers Day and National Best Teacher Award Scheme (October 5), appreciated the STEM Bridge Teachers Volunteer Corps for the sacrifice and commitment that had helped to improve the performance of students in Mathematics and Science under the Educate To Innovate With STEM Project helping subjects for the past two years.

“We appreciate your dedication and sacrifice to help improve performance of students in the Science and Mathematics subjects for the past two years,” he said.

He added that the sacrifices and volunteerism demonstrated by teachers under are crucial in improving student performances in STEM subject areas in the coastal districts of the Western Region under the Tullow funded STEM Project.

Touching on the global theme of this year’s World Teachers Day, “Young Teachers: The future of Professions”, the YBF Executive Director said, standards relating to education, personnel policy, recruitment, and initial training as well as the continuing education of teachers, their employment, and working conditions are a collective responsibility and can only thrive on an investment into Ghana's human capital, specifically the youth through quality teaching in the areas of STEM.

He, therefore, called for a multi-stakeholder approach among the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education, traditional authorities, corporate bodies and parents to invest in the education of the youth.  He commended Tullow Ghana Limited, the funders of the STEM Project for their support and assistance under the Project that exposes students to new approaches to Science and Mathematics and addresses the negative misconceptions of some students about these core subject areas.

Educate to Innovate with STEM is a three-year project funded by Tullow Ghana and implemented by the YBF, in the six coastal districts of the Western Region. The project is strategically located to benefit communities where Tullow’s operations are mostly felt.
