Dr Ahmed N. Zakariah, Director of the National Ambulance Service, said on Thursday that the Service was prepared to manage any casualty during the 26th MTN African Cup of Nations, Ghana 2008 tournament.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Dr Zakariah said 16 fully equipped ambulances to be manned by technicians would be made available to all the 16 teams that would feature during the tournament that would span January 20, 2008 to February 10, 2008.
He said health workers in the designated hospitals in the four sites were undergoing training in disaster preparedness after identifying the lapses during the last stadium disaster.
The four sites are Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Tarkoradi.
In the Greater Accra, Ridge, 37th Military and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals have been designated as first line hospitals while Achimota, La, Tema and SSNIT Hospitals were designated as second line hospitals.
For Kumasi, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST) Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have been designated as hospitals to serve any casualties from the tournament.
Tamale General Hospital and Tamale West Hospital have been designated as the hospitals to serve the tournament in Tamale.
Effia Nkwanta, Essikado, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GHAPOHA) and Takoradi Hospitals are to serve the Takoradi venue.
