Despite the media frenzy and speculations about the possible transfer of Ghanaian players in Europe in January, the transfer window shut on Wednesday night with most of them staying put with their clubs.Perhaps the biggest transfer news that made the headlines was the one about Asamoah Gyan. The Black Stars striker signed a four-year deal to move from Udinese to Locomotive Moscow in Russia.The deal that was worth $10.5 million was the highest in Russia during the January transfer.All was set for the transfer but Udinese changed their mind at the last minute and managed to hold on to the Ghanaian midfielder. As if by design, his colleague at Udinese Sulley Muntari could also not complete a move to the English League.Though Portsmouth’s Harry Redknapp was bent on getting the skilful midfielder at all cost, Udinese prized Muntari out of the market.Mathew Amoah’s wish to move from Dortmund in the German Bundesliga also was not to be. Though some European clubs and even Saudi Arabia’s Al-Itihad showed interest, no deal could be agreed.Now fully fit, Mathew has to fight for a starting place under the new Dortmund coach. Many football analysts and the players alike thought Ghana could improve the number of players in the highly attractive English Premier League, but the window shut without Ghana adding onto the two already in England.Michael Essien and John Paintsil continue to be the country’s flag bearers in the Premiership.Laryea Kingston though came close. Scottish side, Hearts made good their interest and signed Laryea on in what is touted as a mouth-watering deal.The player himself insists the move takes him closer to the Premiership where he hopes to play one day.Anthony Obodai also took advantage of the transfer window to move from Dutch side Rotterdam FC after clashing with his Coach, however his move was internal. A rival team RKC Waalwijk snapped him up. It was business as usual on the domestic front. The Africa-Europe player conveyor belt took Liberty Professionals’ Michael Helegbe to France, Jerry Akaminko is in Portugal with Benfica whilst Hearts of Oak’s Anthony Annan has moved to Norway.
