Ghana’s Premier Golf Club, Achimota Golf Club recorded a 41.5-14.5 score over their Nigerian counterparts from Ikoyi in their annual international Matchplay golf competition.
The competition took place from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th November 2019 at Achimota Golf Club course in Accra.
Achimota dominated from start to finish; recording 14. 5 on day one and extending their dominance to the final day with 27 points to record 41. 5 against the visitors’ 12. 5 after 5. 5 and 7 on day one and two respectively.
And for their efforts, they lifted the giant trophy at stake and left the course with the bragging rights; to renew their healthy rivalry.
As it has been the tradition of the competition, the host presented a huge plaque depicting the Ikoyi Golf Club to the visitors.
Club captain, Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah described the match play as a huge success saying, “It went very well; we all won. The objective was to bring us together and to bond well. The tradition has always been to win at home and we succeeded in doing that.”
In like manner, captain of the Ikoyi Golf Club, Tunde Johnson described the 36-hole event as successful and promised to reciprocate the good gesture by their Ghanaian counterparts in the return fixture.
The competition received support by way of sponsorship from Innovation & Manufacturing Group, producers of Quench Mineral Water.
