The Daily Guide says the whole contingent of newly-promoted Premier League side, Wa All Stars was last Tuesday attacked by armed robbers while travelling from Wa to Accra.
Sources revealed that after the robbery, the team, led by coach Emmanuel Quarshie decided to continue the journey to Accra that very morning. However upon reaching Nkawkaw, the Chairman of the club, GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi ordered them via telephone to return to Kumasi for a Police report and medical check-up on all of them before any action would be taken.
Speaking to the paper via phone on Tuesday, Emmanuel Quarshie said the hired bus the team was travelling on from Wa met with a barrier at a spot close to Tanoso on the Techiman road and the driver was compelled to stop at about 2.45am. Thereupon two robbers entered their bus, pulled out guns to give warning shots while four others were holding big clubs around the bus.
“They used the club to hit my head and that of another player, and we were injured in the process. Other players were also beaten up and the robbers who broke the vehicle glasses collected our monies and mobile phones," he recounted.
Coach Quarshie, who was sure the trauma would have a telling effect on his players, said it was important for management of the club to psyche the boys up before the game against Accra Hearts of Oak in Accra.
However, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who doubles as chairman of Wa All Stars said efforts had been made to appeal to the Professional League Board (PLB) headed by Welbeck Abra-Appiah to postpone their league match against Hearts of Oak, scheduled to take place at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Wednesday.
According to him, it was necessary for his team to get a Police report, and medical report, in addition to an application for a request to postpone the match in question, and the PLB would have no choice but to consider their request.
