The Opoku Ware and Kumasi Girls Senior High Schools (SHSs) will seek to defend the trophies they won last year in the Boys and Girls Divisions respectively of the Ashanti Regions Inter-Schools and Colleges Athletics Competition.
The Super Zonals of this year’s competition commences on Monday, March 17, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Both schools affirmed their determination to retain their respective trophies when they kicked off this year’s competition with brilliant performances in both track and field events in their various zones to enable them place first.
Other schools which will be competing alongside Opoku Ware in the Super Zonals include, Ghana National Academy, T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS, Bekwai S.D.A. SHS, Konongo Odumase SHS, Obuasi Secondary/Technical School, Prempeh College, Amanianpong SHS, Toase SHS and Kumasi Anglican SHS.
In the Girls Division, other schools which qualified alongside Kumasi Girls SHS are T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS, Effiduase SHS, Akomadan SHS, Konongo Odumase SHS, St. Monica’s SHS, Afia Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS, Osei Kyeretwie SHS and Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS.
The rest are Dompoase SHS, Aduman SHS, Nkawie Secondary/Technical SHS, Tepa SHS, St. Louis SHS, Toase SHS and Serwaa Nyarko Girls SHS.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samuel Acheampong, Organizing Secretary of the Ashanti Regional School and Colleges Sports Federation has commended the above schools for making it to the Super Zonals stage of the competition and urged the athletes to work hard to improve upon their performances.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Sports in Kumasi on Thursday, he also cautioned students of the various schools, as well as their supporters, to be disciplined during next week’s competition to ensure its success.
