The Ghana Baseball and Softball Association (GHABSA) is organising an exhibition baseball game during the West Africa Universities Games (WAUG) to be hosted by the University of Ghana at Legon.
The game which will be played on Sunday March, 23, 2008 between 2:00pm and 5:00pm will be between a University of Ghana team and a select junior team from Accra and Tema.
There will also be a demonstration game by the Little League of Accra and Tema.
The President of GHABSA, Rev. Albert S. Ocran made this known to myjoyonline Tuesday morning.
He said the exhibition games are part of GHABSA’s ongoing programme of introducing baseball to many more Ghanaians as the game is developed in the country.
Baseball, is a popular and high income game in the US, Japan and Cuba. The popularity of the game to Americans was confirmed by President George Bush when he visited Ghana recently. President George Bush watched an exhibition game while he was in Ghana.
Its introduction and promotion in Ghana is expected to grow to the level where the game will contribute to the country’s economy.
Already, the interest of the Major League in the US, the US Ambassador in Ghana and other sponsors is giving the game the necessary impetus to grow.
