When a couple came up with a cute way of telling their kids they were expecting a baby girl, they never foresaw the melodramatic breakdown that would ensue.

In a video of the incident, their six-year-old son Gunner, who already has two younger sisters, breaks down in tears when he cuts open a white cake and discovers the inside is pink, meaning there's yet another girl on the way.

'It's a girl!' he miserably exclaims before collapsing onto his chair in tears. 'It's another girl! I hate girls! Every time it's girl, girl, girl, girl!!'

The video begins optimistically, with Gunner and his sisters, Paisley and Harper, lined up at the kitchen table, ready to cut open the cake.

'What are we doing, Gunner?' his dad Jason asks in the background. 'We're gonna see what the baby is!' the boy responds, adding: 'I think it's a boy.'

But things take a turn for the worse when Gunner slices into the cake and lifts out a piece, revealing the pink color inside.

'It's a girl!' he screams. 'It's a girl?' He leans back and frowns unhappily, much to the amusement of his two sisters on either side of him.

Then he gets more dramatic, slamming his fists onto the table. 'I knew it was a girl! I'm not gonna eat the cake,' he musters through tears, pushing it away. 'I don't want a girl!'

Throughout his over-the-top meltdown, his parents can't help but giggle quietly, obviously amused at his overreaction.

'I hate girls!' adds the little boy. 'I want to leave this house and never come back! I want to be by myself!'

The hilarious video has been viewed more than 110,000 times since it was posted last week, with many male viewers expressing their sympathy for Gunner.

'It will only get worse,' joked one commenter. 'Every man knows this feeling.' Another said: 'I have three sisters and I still react this way.'

But another viewer opted to see the upside of the situation. 'He will change that perspective when he's about 16,' he wrote. 'More sisters, more sisters' friends, more girls!'
