AshantiGold made it to the next stage of the CAF Champions League competition on Sunday on a 2-0 aggregate.
The Miners beat Renacimento Club of Equatorial Guinea 1-0 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi and qualified on an aggregate of 2:0.
Striker Alfred Arthur scored in the 36th minute to complete Ashgold’s double win.
Ashgold, silver medalists in the 1997 edition of the competition, will play FAR Rabat of Morocco who drew a bye in the first round of qualifiers.
A former Asante Kotoko coach Abubakar Ouattara, now in charge of Renacimento believes the Miners have the quality to go all the way in this year’s championship.
Ghana’s other representative, Kumasi Asante Kotoko crashed out of the competition on Saturday, losing 4-2 on penalties to Port Authority of Gambia.
Port Authority cancelled out Kotoko’s 1-0 advantage from the 1st leg and pushed the match into penalties after securing a goal in the dying minutes of the match.
