CAF Champions League campaigners, Ashantigold SC suffered their heaviest defeat in the 2006/2007 Premier League at the hands of Kpando Heart of Lions on Wednesday, going down three nil at the Kpando Sports Stadium. Lions gave an early indication of carrying the day and grabbing the maximum three points just as Class One Referee McCarthy whistled the two sides into action. The game became a ding-dong affair at the initial stages until Lions snatched the opener in the 23rd minute through Eric Bekoe when he nodded home Abraham Annan's cross from an infringement to beat Ashgold’s goalie Dauda Fatau. From recess it was the homesters who increased the tally to two in the 58th minute when Sadat Bukari connected a grounder from an Annan cross on the left flank. Bekoe was on hand again to score the third goal for Lions in the 79th minute when he capitalized on a defensive blunder by Joe Hendricks of Ashgold. At the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park, Liberty Professional’s Michael Insaidoo's first half loner sank visiting Fetteh Feyenoord deeper down relegation. Insiadoo who was eventually voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match, squeezed a shot from a close range past Feyenoord's goalkeeper Kojo Laomey in the 32nd minute from a Sam Yeboah assist. It was a tale of two halves as Liberty dominated the first but had to chase their shadows for most part of the second session. Liberty missed a series of opportunities in the early stages with keeper Laomey staying in his elements to ensure the margin was that slim. The closest the visitors came to scoring was when creative genius, Mandela Ocansey got the scanty crowd on their feet after he picked a pass deep on the left flank, wove his way through his markers in the middle and sent a curly shot that narrowly missed the post. Feyenoord who are currently languishing in the lower ranks of the Premiership table resumed well from the break with a resurrection too late to change the scoreline. At Ho, Power FC beat visiting Real Tamale United (RTU) by 3-2 to leave them with long thoughts about relegation. It was Power FC who scored two quick goals within fifteen minutes of the first half through Coffie Francis and Shearer Allan and held onto their advantage to end the half. On resumption, Power who seemed poised to increase their goal tally failed as RTU redoubled their efforts and changed their game plan to also score two goals through Suleimana Faisal to level up the scores. The two teams created a number of scoring chances but their attackers either missed the posts narrowly or hesitated in front of goal when it mattered most. RTU showed a lot of confidence as they created anxious moments for the Power lads with their supporters becoming impatient with the quality of their play. The stadium was however set alight when Power increased their tally to three in the 75th minute. Try as they did, the RTU lads could not cancel the winning goal until the final whistle. In other matches All Blacks settled one all with Tema Youth, and Berekum Arsenals defeated Great Olympics by 3:1 while Real Sportive pipped King Faisal by a lone goal. Hearts of Oak and Sekondi Hasaacas will play on Thursday at the Dansoman Karl Reindorf Park while Asante Kotoko and Tano Bofoakwa also trade wits at the Cape Coast stadium. Source GNA
