A 47 year-old driver who stole a taxi cab was on Wednesday sentenced to four years imprisonment in hard labour by a Circuit
Court in Accra.Awudu Nelson pleaded guilty and the court convicted him accordingly.Chief Inspector Mary Adika told the court, presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa that Madam Joanna Addy, who resides at Kaneshie in Accra owned a Nissan saloon taxi with registration number AW 1315 Q.She engaged Nelson to drive the car and he was told to park it at her house after work.The prosecution said soon after Nelson collected the car he disappeared.Madam Addy and the person who introduced Nelson looked for him for days but to no avail until May 22 when they were informed that he was hiding at Agbogbloshie Market in Accra where they traced and found him and handed him over to the Police at Kaneshie.When he was interrogated by the Police, Nelson said he parked the car at the Kaneshie overhead bridge to pick passengers when he saw some policemen in a Nissan Urvan bus chasing him. He therefore drove the car towards Abossey Okai, abandoned it and escaped. Police have still not been able to trace the car.Source: GNA
