The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr Robert Andrew Ghunney, has advised workers to plan their pension, while in active service in order to enjoy good retirement.
He reminded them saying: “…one day they would leave the work they are doing and also vacate from bungalows and other facilities and go home”.
Mr Ghunney gave the advice in a speech read for him at a meeting of the Ghana Government Pensioners Association (GGPA) at Winneba on Friday.
The Chief Executive commended members of the Association for contributing towards the development of the country during their active service.
He appealed to them to help instil discipline into the youth by offering their rich experience to them.
Mr Ghunney expressed concern about the gross misconduct and disrespect among the youth and appealed to the pensioners as senior citizens to help reverse the trend.
According to him, Government appreciated the efforts and good work of pensioners, which was why it instituted the celebration of the “Senior Citizen Day” in the country.
He said the Assembly would form a committee to plan an effective celebration of the Day in the Municipality which would benefit all.
Mr Ghunney urged them to always offer suggestions and ideas to the Municipal towards the development of the area.
Mr Michael K. Abbiw, Central Regional Chairman of GGPA who chaired the function announced that, the headquarters of the Association has given GH¢1000 package to support the Winneba branch of the Association’s office accommodation.
Later, Mr Abbiw and his entourage supervised the election of officers and inauguration of the newly elected Awutu-Senya District branch of the Association.
Mr Francis Kow was elected chairman, Emmanuel Armah Sankofi, secretary and Mr. Jacob Nkansah Assistant Secretary.
Meanwhile, the executives of the Winneba branch of the Association were retained unopposed.
