A Cape Coast magistrates’ court on Tuesday, sentenced a 20 year-old tailor, Mohammed Osumanu, to five years imprisonment for unlawful entry and damage, stealing, and assault. Osumanu pleaded guilty to all the charges and was convicted on his own plea. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Ockom told the court presided over by Mr Eugene Obeng-Ntim, that the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Adoko, who is a building contractor visited his new building site at Amamoma near the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on June 2, 2008 at about 18.00 hours. He said when he got to the site, he inspected the house in which he had been keeping his building materials and detected that thieves had destroyed two roofing sheets through where the room was entered. He said Mr Adoko also detected that 15 bags of cement were stolen from the house and that he made his own inquiries and one Mr Mark Doni told him that he had earlier seen Osumanu carrying bags of cement from the direction of his building and when he questioned him, he said Mr Adoko who had asked him to carry the cement to another site and based on this they (Mr Adoko and Doni) reported the matter to the UCC police. He said two days later, Mr Doni again saw Osumanu carrying two door panels and a bag of cement from the same direction of the site of Mr Adoko, so he immediately mobilized two other persons who trailed Osumanu to the road side where he went to pick a vehicle. Chief inspector Ockom said the three men rushed on Osumanu and he struggled with them and in the process he bit Kwaku Hadzielo on the hand and Kwame Fianu on the chest but they managed to overpower and handed him over to the UCC police.Source:GNA
