A circuit court at Tarkwa, has sentenced a 29-year-old galamsey operator, Kofi Kwarteng to eight years imprisonment for inflicting wounds on his girlfriend’s breast and arm with a blade. The incident was said to have occurred at Baidoo a community at Abosso-Kakoase near Tarkwa.
He was sentenced on his own plea.
Inspector Florence Tawiah of Tarkwa Police told the court presided over by Justice John Ajet-Nasam that Kwarteng and the victim, Florence Baidoo, 23, have been lovers for more than five years.
The prosecution said on May 25 this year, a misunderstanding arose between the two lovers and Kwarteng used a blade to inflict wounds on the victim’s left arm and breast.
Inspector Tawiah said a “Good Samaritan” who heard the victim shout for help went to her rescue and sent her to the Tarkwa Government Hospital.
Prosecution said Kwarteng went into hiding but was arrested on June 10 this year and handed over to the police.
The victim pleaded to the court to free Kwarteng but the judge said the crime committed by the accused was against the State and not an individual.Source: GNA
