The youth have been urged to avail themselves of the rich experience of the elderly in society to help secure a successful future.
Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante Akim South, who made the call said, sharing the experiences of successful elders was a pre-requisite for a bright future.
He said the elders should guide the youth to curb the increasing social vices, which were most often perpetrated by the youth.
The DCE was speaking at a get-together, organized for 120 senior citizens as part of activities to mark Republic Day at Juaso on Tuesday.
The get-together was preceded by a football gala among some selected communities, which the Obogu community won and received a cash prize of GH¢ 100.
Mr Boakye-Yiadom noted that the get-together, which was instituted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government on assumption of office, was in recognition of the contribution of Senior Citizens towards national development.
He urged senior citizens in the district to bring their experience to bear on the assembly’s programmes by taking part in activities within their localities.
Nana Ayim Kumnipa, Chief of Gyadam Traditional Area, who chaired the function, entreated the assembly to involve chiefs in its meeting, to ensure that their concerns were factored into the assembly’s development plans.
He expressed his concern about the inability of Assembly Members to share their deliberations, a practice, which defeats their positions as elected officers representing the people.
