President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Alhaji Issa Hayatou is expected to arrive in Accra on Wednesday to receive the national honour bestowed on him by President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Hayatou, who will be decorated with the Order of the Volta - Member (Sports) is among 241 individuals who will be rewarded at the National Awards Night fixed for Thursday, July 3 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The CAF President who turns 62 in August is being rewarded for his outstanding contribution to the development of football on the continent and the world as a whole.
Since assuming the head of the CAF presidency in 1988, Alhaji Hayatou has led a lot of positive campaigns with his most remarkable achievement being the first ever World Cup to be staged on African soil in 2010 in South Africa.
Alhaji Hayatou is a recipient of several national awards including the Legion of French Honour, Order of the Gold Merit of Association of National Olympic Committee and Medal of Honour of Supreme Council of Sports in Africa (SCSA).
The rest of the sporting fraternity of the Order of Volta- Member, are Alhaji Nurudeen Jawula, former President of GFA (Sports) Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of LOC Ghana 2008 (sports) and Mr Sandy Osei Agyeman, athlete (Sports).
Those for the Grand Medal- (Sports) award include Alhaji Abdul Karim Gruzah, (founder, King Faisal Babies), Alhaji Sly Tetteh, (President, Liberty Professionals Football Club) and IBF Bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko.
The rest of the sporting personalities include coach Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie (Head Coach, Black Starlets), Adjoa Bayor (captain, Black Queens), Alberta Sackey (former captain, Black Queens), Vida Anim (Athlete), Opoku Nti and Kwesi Appiah former players of the Black Stars football club.
