The Akim Oda Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, remanded Emmanuel Koomson, Assistant Accountant of the Akim Mansa Rural Bank at Akokoaso in the Eastern Region, into police custody for allegedly possessing fake GH¢3,000.
The amount was in GH¢ 5 and GH¢1 denominations.
The accused also concealed 110 South African Rand and 10 Namibian Dollars alleged to be counterfeit under his bed.
The 38-year-old banker's plea was not taken and would reappear on July 4.
The Prosecution told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that, the complainant is the leader of a police patrol team in Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.
It said on June 26, this year, the police patrol team had a tip-off that Koomson was in possession of cedi notes suspected to be counterfeit.
The Prosecution stated that the patrol team quickly rushed to Koomson's residence at Akim Akokoaso and upon a thorough search retrieved all the currencies under his bed.
Koomson was arrested and sent to the Akim Oda Police Station together with the alleged counterfeit notes.
