Birmingham City chairman, David Gold, is confident Ghana striker Quincy Owusu-Abeyie will be a ‘special talent’ when he signs for the English Championship side.The 22-year-old is on the verge of completing a season-long loan from Russian side Spartak Moscow.Representatives of Spartak Moscow were due to meet Blues officials in Paris yesterday to sort out the deal.Gold is confident that coach Alex McLeish's main target for the next season will live up to expectation by catapulting the club to the Premier League next season.“From what I know I believe Alex is signing a quality player, someone with a special talent,” admitted Gold.“I would be very disappointed if Blues fans didn’t think he was very exciting.“Alex has brought in the experience he needs for this team, and now he wants to add some younger legs to complement that.“To the best of our ability we are trying to build a Premier League standard squad. If we can go up, then we don’t want to completely overhaul the team, we want players who can move easily from one division to the other.”There is a £3.5million permanent deal on the table if Owusu-Abeyie impresses and Gold believes his manager has signed a player with untapped potential.“I would imagine Alex did his homework thoroughly on this player,” said Gold.“He will have spoken to everyone he needed do as well as consulting our scouts. I think Quincy is going to meet the high standards we will be setting this season.“Alex is certainly very professional in his search for new players and in his approach to the situation, he has challenged the board to go the extra mile and we have done. He realises he is not dealing with an Abramovich.Owusu-Abeyie started his career at Ajax Amsterdam but struggled at Arsenal before he he was offloaded to the Moscow club.He spent last season on loan spell at Celta Vigo before making his debut for the Black Stars at the African Cup of Nations in January.Source: GFA
