Dansoman based Liberty Professionals pipped Heart of Lions by a goal to nil at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, to start off the Globacom Top 4 tournament on a winning note.Sam Ayew Yeboah put liberty ahead in the 23rd minute when he headed home an Emmanuel Osei cross from the right.Emmanuel Osei a former Hearts of Oak central defender combined his defensive duties well, with attacks mostly from the right flank. His rampaging runs on the right, combined with an aggressive attack led by Ayew Yeboah proved a mouthful for a rather weak Lions defense.A disappointing finish robbed Liberty of what could easily have been a total annihilation at least in the early embers of the first half. The depleted Lions side bereft of nine regular players struggled to assert themselves but ended the first half on a very strong, but Mozart Adjetey pulled off some excellent saves to secure Liberty’s lead. After recess it was Lions who dominated play but created almost next to nothing.Daniel Yeboah marshaled a strong mid- field for Liberty, and in most cases turned defence into goal scoring opportunies for the Dansoman based side.In one of those onslaughts, Emmanuel Osei had his strike, off his weaker foot cleared off the line, to save the blushes of Kpando Hearts of Lions.Elsewhere favorites Kumasi Asante Kotoko reduced Berekum Arsenals to rags courtesy a 3-0 drubbing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.Goals came from usual suspects Eric Bekoe, and Kojo Poku were enough to set the porcupine warriors to a flying start. The two results set the stage for an uncompromising encounter on Wednesday between Kumasi Asante and Liberty Professionals on one hand and Hearts of Lions and Berekum Arsenals on the other.Author: Nathan Gadugah
