Al Ahly of Egypt closed in on a place in the Champions League semi-finals after a 1-0 win over Zimbabwean champions Dynamos. The multiple African champions now need just one point from their remaining two Group A fixtures to seal a place in the last four. They might not even need that because they will confirmed in the semis if ASEC Mimosas fail to beat Zamalek later on Sunday.Former BBC African footballer of the year Mohammed Barakat scored the only goal of the game in Harare. The Red Devils of Cairo had just scraped a 2-1 victory over the same opponents in Cairo two weeks ago, but here they put in a greatly improved performance.Al Ahly found the net twice more in an action-packed first half at the Rufaro Stadium, but both goals were disallowed by the Burkina Faso referee.Dynamos' best chance of equalising fell to Marufu late in the closing stages of the opening half, but he blazed over the crossbar and the Al Ahly goalkeeper was rarely troubled after the break.Al Ahly now top Group A with 10 points.Dynamos are third with three points and their hopes of making the semi-finals are now hanging by a thread. In Group B, Al Hilal of Sudan's hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League are looking precarious after a 1-0 loss to Coton Sport of Cameroon.Baba Ousmilla was the scorer for the Cameroon side halfway through the second half.A mere two minutes later, Al Hilal went down to ten men after Alaa Gibreel was sent off after picking up a second yellow card.Coton Sport are now top of Group B with seven points.Last year's Champions League semi-finalists Al Hilal are in third place with five points.
TP Mazembe of DR Congo take on Enyimba of Nigeria on Sunday in the group's other fixture.Source: BBC
