The New Patriotic Party Election 2008 campaign committee has sent a congratulatory message to all Moslems in Ghana for “their significant contributions to our nation and the diversity they bring.”
The statement signed by the chairman of the committee, Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy, said “This is a time when all who can afford in the Islamic faith are enjoined to give alms to the poor. It is this spirit of concern for those in the shadows of society, the young, the elderly, the sick and the poor that has motivated the NPP’s social spending policies.”
Below is the statement.
GREETINGS TO MUSLIMS FROM NPP CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE ON THE END OF THE FAST OF RAMADAN
On the occasion of “EID-UL-FITR”, the NPP campaign says to all Muslims “Barka da Salah!” as they join a billion and a half other Muslims to mark the end of the fast of Ramadan.
As we celebrate this happy occasion our party and our country thanks Muslims for their significant contributions to our nation and the diversity they bring.
As Allah states in the Quran (49:9) “And act justly. Truly, God loves those who are just.” This call to Muslims to act justly is common to all faiths.
This is a time when all who can afford in the Islamic faith are enjoined to give alms to the poor. It is this spirit of concern for those in the shadows of society, the young, the elderly, the sick and the poor that has motivated the NPP’s social spending policies.
Amongst these have been the capitation grant, the school feeding program and the national health insurance scheme.
In this election year, we join Muslims and all other people of faith in praying and working for a peaceful election season.
In the coming year, we say to all Muslims “Asala mu Alaikum” (Peace be unto you) and to our nation.
Arthur Kobina Kennedy
