National Democratic Congress Deputy General Secretary, Kofi Adams says the party has suspended the process of electing new regional executives.
This follows two law suits against the party’s National and Regional Executive Committees by a former TEIN president in the Ashanti region, Linus Njonolah and another member of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency in the Greater Accra region.
Mr. Adams told Joy News’ Fred Smith Monday that even though many of the regions were ready for the elections they could not go further than to put it on hold.
“The first thing to do is to obey the law and so we have decided to suspend the process that leads to election of regional executives,” he said.
He continued the party’s legal team has taken up the matter – whether to battle it out in court or find alternative solutions.
“I’m quite sure that the leadership will also meet to see which way to go; whether a settlement out of court or a battle in court.”
Explaining further Mr. Adams mentioned that some persons in the party felt aggrieved by a few clauses regarding a person’s qualification for the regional executive position.
Others also, he noted petitioned the NEC to review its decision on the same issue, which is yet to meet and discuss, while the two sought a redress in the law court.
