Al Ahly threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to Pachuca of Mexico after extra time in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup in Japan on Saturday.
The Egyptians led 2-0 at half-time, with a Fausto Pinto own goal in the 28th minute and Flavio scoring with a breakaway effort on 45 minutes.
Luis Montes pulled one back for Pachuca, and Christian Gimenez's free-kick took the game to extra time.
A Damian Alvarez goal and another from Gimenez gave Pachuca victory.
Pachuca will play South American champions LDU of Ecuador in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Al Ahly will play for fifth place on Thursday against the losers of Sunday's quarter-final between Japan's Gamba Osaka and Adelaide United of Australia.
"We panicked," said Ahly's Portuguese coach Manuel Jose. "Clearly the players couldn't handle the pressure.
"No excuses, it was mental weakness."
