The Ghana Football Association on Tuesday announced a new five-year sponsorship deal with new telecommunication company, Glo Mobile Ghana as title sponsor for the premier league.
Ghana’s elite competition which kicked off on November 23 had no title sponsor following the Premier League Board’s decision to abrogate the existing sponsorship deal with another mobile phone service provider, Onetouch.
However, a $3 million deal has been signed for the first year of the deal with an upward increment expected for the remaining four years of the agreement.
The league has been christened the Glo Premier League.
The new sponsors, Ghana’s sixth mobile operator will make an initial 50 percent cash payment and then pay the remainder later on.
Glo Mobile Ghana, a subsidiary of Globacom International begins its five-year partnership with Ghana football with this season’s league, the beginning of the 2008/09 campaign. The deal will run until the end of the 2013/14 season.
The premier league involves 16 clubs spread across the country.
