Two key contenders in the flagbearership race of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen have commended Muslims as they celebrate this year’s Eid-il-Adha festivities.
The two leaders in separate statements issued Friday, October 3, 2014 both urged the believers in Islamic faith to use the occasion to pray for peace, prosperity and the spirit of unity for the nation.
Nana Akufo-Addo in his statement prayed: “that the spirit of sacrifice that goaded Prophet Ibrahim to accept God’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael will continue to animate our activities and dealings with one another as faithful of God and as citizens of Ghana.
“...May we all take advantage of this month to pray for the success of our country and to pledge to do all in our power to contribute to the forward movement of Ghana, including our ability to sacrifice for the progress of our motherland,” the statement said.
On his part, Mr. Kyeremateng entreated the believers to “be guided by this invaluable deed on this important day in order to reflect and be guided in our individual quest to live a just and a well spent life in our societies”.
“I enjoin all our citizens to remain resolute in the face of our collective socio-economic challenges as a nation, and embrace with an open heart, the need to be selfless, honest and discipline for the restoration and progress of our dear nation”.
The two experienced politicians, together with MP for Mampong, Francis Adai Nimoh will be put up before party officers on October 18, 2014, where one of them will emerge as flagbearer for the opposition party ahead of the 2016 general elections.
