The incumbent National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress, Dr Kwabena Adjei is launching his campaign for re-election, Wednesday.
Hundreds of party supporters have thronged the KAMA Conference centre, venue for the launch to acclaim the man who led the party to win two successive national elections.
Even though Dr Adjei is yet to address the gathering at the time of filing the report, one of his aides Moustapha Bande told Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah that Dr Adjei would be banking on his leadership skills to retain his position ahead of the October National executive election.
Touting the credentials of the incumbent, Moustapha Bande said Dr Adjei has made tremendous contributions toward the development of the party and the country as a whole.
Outlining the message Dr Adjei is likely to give to his supporters and delegates at the launch, Bande said:
"We are going to focus on his contribution to the democratic dispensation and to the NDC.
"The kind of united front he brought, the kind of rebranding he brought to the party and his ability to rebrand our candidate which enabled us to win an election that was envisaged to be difficult," he said.
He added that Dr Adjei's leadership credential which galvanized all party members for victories in the 2008 and 2012 elections should not be underestimated.
Dr Adjei has come under some criticism from his contenders for neglecting members at the grassroots but Bande said that allegation could not be any farther from the truth.
He explained that allegation is only based on an opinion and not on fact.
He said the focus of the party is to win the 2016 elections and Dr Kwabena Adjei would be crucial in securing that victory.
Dr Kwabena Adjei is being challenged by two others- NADMO boss, Kofi Portuphy and former Trade Minister Dan Abodakpi- all of whom are popular within the party.
The party delegates would later this month converge at a yet to be named destination for congress to elect new executives.
