The spokesperson for President Mills’ Transition Team, Hanna Tetteh, says despite former President Rawlings' criticisms, the team believes it is taking the right decisions and acting responsibly.
She said every decision taken by the transition team was in consonance with the constitution and appropriate procedures.
She said the President would do what is necessary to enhance confidence in his government.
The former President had accused the transition team and President of being too soft on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and people who worked for the former government.
He was against the decision of the President to allow District Chief Executives appointed by former president Kufuor to still stay in office.
But Ms Tatteh told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the term of office of the DCEs “is not coterminous with the appointment of the executive,” and therefore should not be expected to exit with the executive.
According to her, acting in accordance with former President Rawlings’ prescription (chase out all NPP people out of office) would detract from President Mills’ promise of "a different kind of politics."
“When President gave his inaugural address, what he said was that he thought that it was time for a new kind of politics, that he wanted to move away from the past, he wanted to move away from vengeance and vendetta.”
She said the transition team was taking time to ensure that it understands all issues properly and in order to be able to appropriately guide the President to enable him give an accurate state of the nation address when the time is due.
The team according to her would put in the public domain the progress of work so far to allay the fears of members of the party who obviously are not happy with the way things are handled.
Asked whether the President would issue a statement to former President Rawlings’ criticisms, Ms Tetteh said President Mills would make a direct confrontation with Mr. Rawlings.
She however believes the President will remain focused on the job that he has been mandated to do.
