District Chief Executive for Jirapa in the Upper West region, Vivien-Nelly Kunko has threatened a defamation suit against some individuals in the National Democratic Congress after they accused her of selling contracts to undeserving people and taking kickbacks.
“They have come with allegations. They haven’t found out the facts and they have put it on air so I will take legal action because that is purely defamation of character. You cannot pass sweeping statements on air” she told Joy News Upper West regional correspondent, Rafiq Salam
Calling for her dismissal, some youths of the party and some caterers of the Ghana School Feeding Program marched through streets of the Jirapa town on Thursday.
They moved to present a petition to the deputy Coordinating Director, Timothy Anafu, to be sent to president John Mahama accusing Vivien Kunko of being insensitive to their needs and failing to create jobs.
But Vivien Kunko explained that District Assembly Common fund has not been disbursed and has delayed over several months. This has starved the district of the funds needed for executing important projects, and limited her office’s ability to create jobs she said.

She said she has explained this to her youth to exercise patience with her administration.
Nonetheless, in a show of commitment to the party, she gave out three contracts to the constituency chairman and two other executives.
“I gave constituency chairman, three classroom blocks to be built and a shed to the vice secretary and vice-chairman”.
In another turn of events, the constituency executives have given out the contracts to others and taken cuts, she revealed.
“I also gave them [executives] job and now you are not the people doing it. They are the people who gave it to contractors and that is what this youth are seeing and saying I have sold out contracts”
Taking on the NDC agitators, the DCE announced she would be taking legal action against for detractors.
“I have never sold any single contract. They have to prove to me those I have sold the contract to”
The DCE said the action by the section of party supporters was fuelled by her detractors who vowed to oppose her from “day one” of her appointment.
“They gave me one month [ultimatum]. When I was doing my confirmation they were on the streets threatening assembly men that they shouldn’t endorse me otherwise they will beat them up and burn their motorbikes”
“It is a planned thing. It is not that I have done something wrong”.
