Ghana will take on Cameroon tomorrow at the national stadium in Kigali, Rwanda as the 16th edition of the African Youth Championships gets underway in the East African country.
Rwanda is hosting the tourney for the first time and together with seven other countries, would be seeking to book a semi final berth which leads to participation in the world championships in Egypt later this year.
The Black Satellites, are confident of doing well in the competition having had some decent preparations ahead of the tournament.
They won the West African Championships in December and went on to Kenya for a final brush up before heading to Rwanda last Thursday for the competition.
Ghana will hope to start on a good note with a win over the Cameroonians before they face Mali and Rwanda in later games.
Very little is known about this Cameroonians side but the fact that they hold quite a pedigree in youth football on the continent, makes them dangerous proposition in the competition.
Ghana therefore will have to brace themselves for a very tough duel today in a game whose outcome will go a long way in determining who qualifies from Group A to the last four.
The squad assembled by Ghana for this tourney is quite a decent one including Andre Dede Ayew the son of Ghanaian legend Abedi Pele Ayew, who plays in France and is the captain of the team.
He is expected to play a lead role in the team as they seek to win the competition for the first time since 1999 when as hosts, they defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the final in Accra.
Cameroon will not come easy, but the form exhibited by the Satellites in the build up to this competition makes them favourites to claim the points at stake.
The hosts Rwanda gets the tourney underway with a game against Mali before the Ghana-Cameroon game comes off.
