Election 2008 may have ended with the investiture of President Mills into office, but its controversy appears far from over.
The forum for setting the record straight, a wing of the ruling NDC has described as "lies and fabrications" allegations by the opposition NPP that it supporters were harassed in the just ended elections, especially in the Volta Region.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Fiifi Kwetey propaganda secretary of the NDC hinted President Mills will soon set up a Commission of Enquiry to look into the gamut of allegations.
Even before the hearing of the proposed Commission begins, Mr. Kwetey told Citi News on Monday, it is disgusted by comments by NPP’s flag-bearer Nana Akufo-Addo that the country was sharply divided along the two parties’.
He alleged figures attained by the NPP in its stronghold, were inflated, a clear manifestation of the attempt by the NPP to “steal its way into office.”
Mr. Kwetey, stressed President Mills won the elections in more than eight regions of the country for which reason, Akufo-Addo’s assertions could not be true.
The propaganda Secretary insisted the party has “provable evidence” to back allegations of electoral fraud, especially in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Kwetey also dismissed threats by the NPP that it was going to court to seek redress for acts of violence alleged to have been unleashed on its polling agents in the December 28 run-off by some NDC activists.
“It would be a total waste of time,” he remarked.
