Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has pledged his unflinching support for Nana Akufo-Addo’s bid to unseat the NDC government in 2016.
“I assure him of my full support as he attempts to win power for the great NPP and relieve Ghanaians of their suffering from the NDC government,” Mr. Kufuor said in a statement.
After months of grueling campaigns, the two time presidential candidate was massively endorsed by the party on Saturday as its flag-bearer. He polled 117,413 of the total ballot cast representing an overwhelming 94.35 per cent. Alan Kyeremanten managed a paltry 5,908 votes representing 4.75 per cent with Addai Nimoh obtaining 1,128 votes representing 0.91 per cent.
The former President said the landslide victory is an indication that the rank and file of the party want Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the party into the 2016 general elections.
“I congratulate Nana Addo on his resounding and emphatic victory,” he applauded.
To wrest power from the Mahama-led administration, Nana Akufo-Addo has to take immediate steps to build a strong and united front in the party, he urged.
“He should put aside all disagreements during the campaign and embrace his competitors in a show of real leadership steeped in democracy,” the former President underscored.
In commending Alan Kyerematen and Mr. Addai Nimoh for putting up a good fight, Mr. Kufuor admonished them to rally their supporters to campaign assiduously for Nana Akufo-Addo.
