Former Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, HE Alhaji Rashid Bawa, has pleaded with Nana Akufo-Addo to consider picking Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate.
Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE yesterday, he said considering Dr Bawumia’s expertise, it would be in the interest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the fractured country in general to have such a person come and take on the arduous task of salvaging the economy when Ghanaians give the party the nod.
“We are deep into an economic mess and it would require the expertise of a person like Dr Mahamudu Bawumia with the assistance of others to turn things around. The magnitude of the damage is so huge that not picking such a personality would not serve any useful purpose,” he told Nana via this interview.
Although the signs are that Nana could pick Dr Bawumia, there is the need to remind him not to waiver at all in this direction.
Nana Akufo-Addo had earlier assured party supporters that he would still go for Dr Bawumia should his party give him the nod to bear its flag in the next presidential election.
Dr Bawumia’s popularity soared during the election petition hearing following his performance during the proceedings.
“His choice by Nana Akufo- Addo in the last polls is one of the best choices to be made by a flagbearer in the NPP,” Alhaji Rashid Bawa said, as he continued… “It was through an effective headhunt that Nana got this gem of a person whose mastery of figures even under cross examination during the election petition hearing amazed even the defendants in the case.
One of the much-awaited decisions to be made by Nana Akufo-Addo following his emphatic election last Saturday is the choice of his running mate.
When he finally settles on this gentleman from the Northern Region and the son of a veteran politician, the late Mumuni Bawumia, he would have made good on a promise he made.
