The chief of Goaso, Nana Kwesi Bosompra, has warned critics of the ruling NDC to desist from their actions or be banished from the area.
According to him, the criticisms would paint the area as anti-government and could prevent it from attracting development projects from government.
Some residents who profess to be supporters of the opposition NPP have confirmed sending text messages and contributing to radio phone-inn programmes in which they criticized the government.
One of such ardent critics, DJ Omaley, told Joy News their comments were only to serve as a reminder to President Mills to honour the numerous pre-election promises.
He considered the threat by the chief as an affront to their fundamental right of free speech and association.
But Nana Bosomprah maintained the criticisms, though coming from few individuals, could be misconstrued as representing the views of the entire area.
He noted the country has only one president at a time and called on all to support the ruling government until the next election is held.
He added the subjects must rather dwell on the social amenities the area needed.
Meanwhile, former president of the National House of Chiefs Odeneho Juapong Ababio said the position by the Chief of Goaso is unconstitutional.
He argued under the current democratic dispensation, the chief cannot compel any body from criticizing any government, but can only appeal to his subjects to tone down on any criticisms.
Asked if the critics could be banished from the Goaso traditional area if they persist, Odeneho Juapong Ababio stressed those traditional norms can no longer hold sway in our current dispensation.
