Polling station chairmen of the Asante-Bekwai constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have passed a vote of no confidence in their executive.
In a resolution signed by the 63 chairmen after a meeting at Bekwai, they called for the removal of their local leaders, accusing them of placing the Party beyond the reach of members and sympathizers.
“The constituency executive has at various meetings with polling station chairmen openly insulted traditional rulers in the area thereby, receiving the anger of the majority of the citizenry,” they alleged.
The resolution also accused the local NPP leadership, including the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive and the defeated Member of Parliament, of masterminding police brutalities on some supporters who had embarked on a peaceful demonstration against them prior to the December 7 general elections.
These actions, they said, led to the loss of the constituency seat by the NPP to an independent candidate.
In their resolution, the polling station chairmen threatened that they would hit the streets if the executive members were not removed.
