The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has rejected suggestions that an 18-club league should be organized in order to reach a compromise with King Faisal Babes Football Club, following several public outcry over the delay in the start of the Premier League.
The court case between the Kumasi-based club and the Ghana Football Association has been pending for about two months now and this has delayed the start of 2014/2015 league.
There were suggestions from some clubs to have the number of clubs in the league increased to 18 to accommodate King Faisal but GHALCA after meeting the clubs on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 kicked against that suggestion.
“We don’t and won’t support any 18-club league idea because it is out of range for us,” said Isaac Koomson, Vice Chairman of GHALCA.
“Some clubs proposed this but after a meeting with all the clubs almost, 80 percent kicked against that idea.
“You don’t talk about an 18-club league in a vacuum, you consider the division one and what happens as well in division two and the financial capability of the clubs as well.”
