Kumasi police have arrested two persons suspected to have colluded to tamper with video information captured by CCTV security cameras at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday during Kotoko Glo Premier league match against Hearts of Oak.
A presidential inquiry has been set-up into the deaths of six fans at the stadium and the National Sports Council had stated its intentions of relying on the cameras to prosecute the offenders behind the over-crowding incidence.
The CCTV cameras were installed at all corners of the stadium to provide security back-up, but before security operatives could make a move, the information on all 57 cameras had been deleted.
The arrested persons: Micheal Mensah Tabiri is a worker at the CCTV Room at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi and Mohammed Oteng is an engineer at the Baba Yara Stadium who held the keys to the CCTV Room.
Initial information gathered indicated that some persons had seen Tabiri leaving the CCTV Room at the Stadium.
But the accused claimed he had been sent by some officials to monitor what the cameras had captured.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Yusif Tanko, told the Daily Graphic he has since been handed over to the Bureau of National Investigations.
According to him, the investigations would try to establish how the suspect was able to gain access to the CCTV Room.
The arrest of the two suspects comes after accusations and counter-accusations by Kotoko CEO Sylvester Asare-Owusu and NSC Chief Prince Oduro-Mensah, over the vexed issue of illegal fees collected at the gates.
