Burkina Faso has now closed its borders to neighboring countries including Ghana due to ongoing disturbances.
Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo confirmed to Joy News, the borders were closed Saturday, November 1, 2014.
A split has emerged within that country’s armed forces over who is leading the country following the resignation of President Blaise Compaore.
The presidential guard's second in command, Colonel Isaac Zida, says he has assumed power as head of state.
Earlier, army Chief General Honore Traore said he had taken over.
The decision to close the border would make virtually impossible for Ghanaians there that intend to return home.
Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Mark Woyongo however, says government is making arrangements to assist citizens caught up in the confusion there and wish to return home.
“The Ghana embassy is taking care of the interest of Ghanaians…we will start the negotiations with their [Burkinabe] embassy here [Accra] and then send a delegation to the place to negotiate on their behalf,” Mr. Woyongo told Joy News’ Emmanuel Agyei.
