Reports that former president of Burkina Faso, Balise Campaore is in Ghana are untrue, says Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.
After the Burkinabe President was ousted through nationwide citizen protests Friday evening, rumors were rife especially on social media, that the man who had led Burkina Faso for more than 26 years was heading to Ghana.
“He is not here now. And it’s about 12 [or] 14 hours since that information came. So he is not here”, the Vice President said.
The BBC is however reporting that Blaise Campaore has arrived in Ivory Coast capital Yamoussoukro with his family and close associates.
The report indicated that President Alhassan Ouattara has received the former Burkinabe President.
Amissah Arthur. said had Mr Campaore decided to come to Ghana, President Mahama would have received him warmly.
“He is a member of the ECOWAS, and if he wants to come here, if the government of the country thinks that it’s a friendly act to the people of Burkina Faso to help them resolve their internal problems, we would be very amenable”, Mr Amissah-Arthur explained.
