In an attempt to discredit an investigative piece done by Joy FM's Manasseh Azure-Awuni on an office complex being constructed by the Ghana Gas company, its PRO Alfred Ogbamey has triggered further controversy about how the company acquired the land from none other than the brother of the Energy Minister.
Joy News has in its possession, a copy of Frank Buah's land title dated May 18, 2012 signed for the Regional Lands Officer (Lands Commission), Vida Keh.
The document shows a 17.5 acre site plan on which the Ghana Gas project was to be executed.
In the first of a series of report on the Ghana gas office project, the cost of which has ballooned from $7.5million to $44 million, Manasseh reported how the Ghana Gas company, which falls under the Energy Ministry bought the land from the brother of the Energy Minister when it could have bought it directly from the chiefs.
In a reaction, the PRO for the Ghana Gas company Alfred Ogbamey said: "It is totally false and outright lie to suggest that the Ghana gas bought land from Frank Buah..."
However at some point in the interview the PRO explained that the company acquired a 54 acre of land for the project but admitted though that 17 acres of that land was part of the 54 acre acquired by Frank Buah.
He stated however that it is misleading for an impression to be created that all the 54 acre had been acquired by Buah - an impression neither Joy FM, nor Myjoyonline.com created.
What is clear at least on the document Joy FM has is that, the 17 acre of land is owned by Mr Frank Buah and was bought a year after the Ghana Gas company signed a contract with SINOPEC for the construction of the office space.
The contract between Ghana Gas and Sinopec was signed in November 2011 but Mr Frank Buah acquired his land title in 2012.
Alfred Ogbamey also justified the reason for change in the cost of the project from $7.5 million to $44 million saying the initial project was supposed to have been executed on a 1,600 square meters but that was changed to 6,000 square meters.
He has promised a full rebuttal to what he claims to be a false story.
