Some youth of the governing National Democratic Congress in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region, have expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating the immediate past Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji Alidu Iddrisu Zakari as the new Chief Executive.
Alhaji Alidu Iddrisu Zakari lost his bid to be retained as MP for the Walewale constituency during the 2012 NDC primaries to Mr. King James, an accountant by profession who subsequently lost the seat to the New Patriotic Party in the general elections.
Alhaji Zakari’s nomination for the position of DCE for the West Mamprusi District sparked a debate among NDC youth, as some of them argue that the appointment amounts to a demotion, considering the fact that he was the MP for the area before elections 2012.
However, the youth wing of the NDC in the district capital, Walewale has declared full support for the DCE nominee.
In a release signed by the Walewale Youth Secretary for the NDC, Abdul-Rahim Bantasi, the youth said “Alhaji Alidu Iddrisu Zakari is the precise choice for the DCE position, taking into consideration the current factionalism in the NDC fraternity in the West Mamprusi District”.
The youth added that they are optimistic that Alhaji Zakari will “catalyze the party chairman and the parliamentary aspirant’s efforts to recapture the Walewale seat come 2016” and thanked the president for nominating him.
