One of the biggest names in radio sports for the past 18 years, MARTIN DAVIES is set to leave the BBC.
Mr. Davies has been appointed Coordinator for the 'Class of 2015- World Cup Project' for GCE (Global Campaign for Education).
He will be working with FIFA and Governments around the world to deliver high profile and ambitious projects which will raise and give a big boost to education in Africa.
This is a role that brings together a lot of Martin's strengths and in areas that he feels very passionate about.
Before joining Business Development, Martin was Editor of African Productions.
During his eighteen years at the BBC, Martin has been a leading creative light - always championing the audience and leading on interactivity.
His contribution to sport at World Service has also been huge: commentator, producer, Editor. Among other things he helped build the radio coverage of the African Cup of Nations into the major event it is now.
He has championed the BBC African Footballer of the Year Award into a globally accepted award.
Perhaps one of the biggest tributes I can personally pay to Martin Davies was the mentoring and tutoring he gave me at BBC Bush House. When I first arrived at the BBC in 2002,I was overwhelmed, but he alongside Ghanaian Ben Dotse Marlor gave me enough belief and confidence to anchor Fast Track Sports for three years.
Other Ghanaians that Mr. Davies employed include Ibrahim Sannie and Vera Kwakofie.
A true and genuine mentor. We at Oxigen and Sports World wish him all the best at FIFA.
