There is growing uneasiness within the ruling NDC over the contents of a memo written by the Chairman of the government transition team, P.V. Obeng. The memo leaked to the media and was published by the Daily Dispatch newspaper raises red flags about the way the Mills government is administering the country. It pointed out that the government is slow in appointing party functionaries to various positions in the government. It also says the government has not been aggressive in pursuing its agenda of change, the mantra which powered the party back back to power. It bemoaned the fact that government was losing what it described as media war.Top party functionaries in the government have declined commenting on the memo saying it was strictly an internal communication meant only for the president. The sentiments expressed by Mr. Obeng appear to be in tandem with similar ones expressed by former president Rawlings about the pace of the Mills administration.Mr. Rawlings had complained about some ineptitude and unassertiveness on the part of the president accusing him of appointing mediocre ministers. The Editor of the Daily Dispatch, Mr. Ben Ephson told Joy News’ Matilda Asante there was a general perception that the government was slow.He said there was anxiety within the grassroots supporters of the ruling party who felt the quandary of the government denied them the relish of winning power.According to Mr. Ephson, the government was overly sensitive to the media arguing that if unlimited media attention was enough to win elections, the NPP would have won the last elections hands down.He said the problem with the NDC and the media was that while editors of pro-NPP media houses personally defend their stories, the case was different with pro-NDC media outlets.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
