The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt says former president Rawlings at some point during last year’s campaign wanted then candidate Mills changed.
He said Mr. Rawlings grew increasingly frustrated with the flag-bearer of the NDC – a party he founded – and wanted him replaced as presidential candidate of the party.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Morning Show, ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr. Pratt said the former president sent several text messages to people who matter in the party expressing his desire to have Prof. Mills changed.
According to Mr. Pratt, the seeming dissatisfaction with the president as expressed by Mr. Rawlings is not new.
He wonders why the former president is so mercurial and has problems with virtually everybody.
“What kind of man are you that you quarrel with everybody, even in your own party,” he asked.
Referring to comments by Mr. Rawlings in which he called some leaders of the NDC ‘characters,’ the senior journalist said the people in question have once been close confidants of the former president.
Mr. Pratt believes the charge by Mr. Rawlings that President Mills appointed mediocre ministers was unsustainable and unjustified.
The people who served as ministers under Mr. Rawlings during his 19 years reign as president were no better, he asserted.
The president, he contends, must be spared the daily unnecessary tantrums by the former president and allowed to operate within the constitution.
