The Chief Executive Officer of defending league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Sylvestor Asare Owusu, has been banned for five years from football administration following a White Paper issued by government in support of recommendations by the James Marshall Belieb Committee.
The committee was instituted to investigate the cause of the recent stadium disaster at the Baba Yara Stadium which claimed four lives and left several others with injuries.
Suffocation was said to be the cause of the deaths following overflowing attendance at a GLO premier league game between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. The latter won the game 2:1.
According to the committee report, the Stadium took in 49,000 supporters, 9,000 more than the approved capacity.
Mr. Asare is alleged to have siphoned part of the gate proceeds accrued from the game. He has been recommended for prosecution
Reading portions of the white paper at a press conference in Accra on Monday, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Muntakar Muhammed demanded payment of GH¢820 declared as gate proceeds to be paid into government chest.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Muntakar Mohammed Mubarak, accepting the report said government will take immediate action on it.
The minister disclosed fans captured on the CCTV camera misbehaving would be arrested and prosecuted.
Joy FM's sports journalist, Ernest Koranteng who was at the press conference said the Chief Executive of the National Sports Council, Prince Oduro Mensah, has been dismissed.
