The Volta River Authority and the Electricity Company of Ghana are urging electricity consumers in the country to intensify their energy conservation activities as steps are taken to solve the current energy crisis.
The two agencies say consumers would have to endure more of the ongoing load management programme to save the Akosombo Dam from total collapse.
According to a press release signed by the two, a more intensive power rationing exercise will take effect from next Wednesday, the 28th of March.
Under the new timetable electricity consumers will be denied power for 24 hours every four days instead of the current 12 hours off, after every 5 days.
Explaining the new schedule to Joy News, the Director of Operations at the Electricity Company of Ghana, Andrew Tonto-Baffour said customer groups will go off once during the day for 12 hours and once during the night for 12 hours, during the four days after which the cycle will be repeated.
He added that the VRA and ECG will continue to monitor and review the programme when it becomes necessary.
