President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, (SWAG) Mr Ackah Anthony on Tuesday left for Milan, Italy to participate in the 72nd Congress of the Association of International Press for Sports (AIPS).
He was accompanied by Kwabena Ofori a member of the Association to attend the five day Congress, which spans from April 29 – May 2.
The Congress, the biggest forum for discussing issues concerning sports journalism, will be attended by 350 sports journalists.
A statement signed by, William Ezah, acting General Secretary of SWAG said the African Sports Journalists Association (ASJU) will also use the occasion to discuss the profession on the continent.
Among the major highlights of the congress are a forum on football to be facilitated by Italy’s national football coach, Marcello Lippi who led his team to victory in the 2006 World Cup.
The statement said Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti and A.C. Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf will also join Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) newly-appointed Communications Director, Hans Klaus, Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Media and Communications Director, William Gaillard and Giovanni Maggi from gaming company SISAL to discuss latest developments in world football during the afternoon of April 30.
It added that candidate cities for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid will use the AIPS congress as a forum to present their bids as well as listen to a briefing from Lord Sebastian Coe, the Chairman of the 2012 London Olympic Organising Committee (LOCOG).
Also in attendance will be the Vice President of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) who will be expected to outline preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games and officials of other Federations.
The statement said the SWAG president is expected to return home on Sunday, May 3.
