Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has donated 25,000 Ghana Cedis to the Local Organizing Committee of the African Hockey Cup of Nations for a successful hosting of the tournament.
A release issued and signed by Mr Bernard Mornah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the LOC copied to GNA Sports said the donation was made to the LOC by the General Manager for Administration of GPHA.
The General Manager said the donation was their contribution towards the successful organization and hosting of the competition which is scheduled to take place from 10 to 18 July this year.
Mr Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Executive Officer of the LOC commended GPHA for the donation saying “the amount has come at the appropriate time to crystallize the aspirations that the Committee and its members have been tasked to lead towards the successful organization of the event in Ghana”.
He praised GPHA for their quick response to the appeal made by the LOC to public spirited organizations and individuals to support the tournament as a cause that will have positive effects on the economy and the well being of the youth.
Mr Rex Danquah added that “The LOC identifies with the call made by the Minister for Youth and Sports for the revival of hockey in the country, especially of the lesser known sporting disciplines to aid the youth to identify talents that will help them to break through the poverty barrier and save the country from repercussions of crime and unemployment”.
The CEO concluded that “it is the wish of all that other companies, institutions and individuals who have already expressed their desire to see the nation through uplifting this international assignment will quickly seize the numerous opportunities that are available through sponsorship of the event whilst contributing to a noble cause”.
