The Black Stars have forced Africa football expert Mark Gleeson to eat large and copious amounts of humble pie. The South Africa-based journalist cast doubt over Ghana’s chances of making a successive World Cup appearance after playing at the 2006 edition in Germany. The journalist with over 20 years experience in reporting Africa football to the world suggested the Black Stars won’t qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa because of the country is not endowed in talents. But after their 2-0 defeat of Mali in Bamako without several key players that keeps Ghana in firm control of the group, Gleeson has been forced into a screeching U-turn. “Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Morocco and Tunisia should have legitimate aspirations but the first two's chances were badly knocked back last weekend in qualifying matches,” Gleeson wrote on Monday. “Ghana and Ivory Coast did much better, the former beating key rivals Mali to top their group and the latter putting down Guinea to stay on top of theirs.” Meanwhile, Ghana soccer fans have asked SuperSport analysts Mahamadou Gaye and Peter Idahside to apologise to the Black Stars for their disrespectful comments about the Black Stars. The Ivorian and Nigerian made similar disparaging remarks on their show Soccer Africa about the Ghana national team. The performance of the Black Stars has also forced them to eat similar amount of humble pie. Several callers to various radio stations asked the duo to humbly retract their statements.
